The Halden Leather Strap Alabaster Linear Chandelier does it differently. The cylinder hangs from two saddle-leather straps, each fitted with a brass buckle plate that sets the height. Not cord dressed up to look like leather: actual hide, stitched down both edges, thick enough to hold its shape and take a crease. It is a detail borrowed from tack rooms and old workshop lamps, and it changes what the fixture is. Steel reads industrial. Leather reads made.

That warmth matters because of what it hangs above. Over a kitchen island or a long table, you are looking at this from eighteen inches below, every day, while you eat. A rod is a rod. A strap has stitching, a buckle, an edge that darkens where it bends — things worth looking at at close range, and things that improve as they age rather than simply getting older.

Natural Alabaster

Naturally Unique Veining

No two pieces of stone are ever the same

Alabaster is a natural stone, so every piece carries its own veining and subtle variation in color. The fixture you receive may therefore differ slightly from the images shown.

An inherent characteristic of real stone — not a quality defect.

Good to Know

Want it dimmable? It has to be built that way

The standard fixture runs on an ordinary wall switch. Because the LED is integrated rather than a replaceable bulb, a dimmable version cannot be retrofitted later — not by changing a bulb, and not by changing the switch. It has to be designed dimmable from the start. Tell us when you order and we will build the dimmable version and confirm which dimmer models work with it.

Size & Fit

One Size — Will It Suit Your Room?

L 51.2″ × H 4.3″ L 130 cm × H 11 cm
1

Is your island or table the right length?

Under 60″Too short
The fixture would overhang or crowd the ends. A single round pendant or a pair of small ones suits this better — ask us and we will point you at one.
60–66″Tight but workable
Leaves roughly 5″ of clear counter at each end. It works, but the fixture will dominate. Fine if that is the effect you want.
72–84″Ideal
The proportion this was drawn for. A linear fixture should run about two thirds of the surface beneath it — at 51.2″, that puts your island or table between 6 and 7 ft.
84–96″Still good
Reads a little light for the surface but stays balanced. Centre it carefully — at this length, being off-centre by 2″ is visible.
Over 96″Consider two
One fixture will look stranded on a table this long. Two, spaced evenly, is the right answer — send us the length and we will tell you the spacing.
2

How high to hang it

30–36″Above the surface
Measured from the countertop or tabletop to the bottom of the cylinder. This is the range for both islands and dining tables.
8 ft ceilingHang at 34–36″
Go to the upper end of the range so the fixture does not close in the space. Straps will be shortened accordingly.
9–10 ft ceilingHang at 30–32″
Lower is better here. A fixture left high on a tall ceiling reads as an afterthought rather than as part of the room.
Over 10 ftTell us first
150 cm / 59″ of cable is supplied. Above 10 ft you may need more — send us the ceiling height before we ship and we will add it free of charge.
The design

Held by Two Straps, the Way a Saddle Is

Steel reads industrial. Leather reads made.

Most linear pendants hang on steel rods. It is the obvious answer — rigid, cheap, invisible — and it is also why most of them stop being noticed about a week after installation. A rod has nothing to look at. It is a solved problem that nobody solved interestingly.

Halden hangs from two saddle-leather straps, each fitted with a brass buckle plate. Not cord dressed up to look like leather: actual hide, stitched down both edges, thick enough to hold its shape and take a crease. The detail is borrowed from tack rooms and old workshop lamps, and it changes what the fixture is.

The strap Stitched hide with a brass buckle — it carries the weight, and it sets the height.
The stone A banded cylinder of quarried alabaster — veining that belongs to one block and no other.
The light Stone wraps the full circumference, so light leaves in every direction at once.

That warmth matters because of where this hangs. Over an island or a long table you look at it from eighteen inches below, every day, while you eat. A rod is a rod. A strap has stitching, a buckle, an edge that darkens where it bends — things worth seeing at close range, and things that improve as they age rather than simply getting older.

The buckle is not decorative either. It is how the height is set: no cutting, no electrician, no decision you are stuck with. Hang it, sit down at the counter, check the cylinder clears your sightline across the island, then set the buckles. Three years later, when the stools change, move them again.

And because the alabaster wraps the full circumference rather than sitting in a downward-facing channel, light leaves the tube in every direction at once — down onto the worktop, sideways across the room, up onto the ceiling. Nobody at the table sits in shadow, and the ceiling above it never goes black. That is the difference between a linear stone pendant and a downlight bar, and it is visible the first evening.

— A fixture that looks better in year three than in year one. —
Questions, Answered

Common Questions

The things people ask before they order.

Will it fit my island?
It's 51.2″ long. Ideal over an island or table of 6 to 7 ft. Under 5 ft is too short; over 8 ft, consider two.
Is the leather real?
Yes — real hide, stitched down both edges, holding the actual weight of the fixture. Not cord wrapped to look like leather.
Will the leather wear out?
It will darken and soften where it bends. That's leather doing what leather does — most people prefer it after a year or two.
How do I set the height?
By the brass buckle on each strap — no cutting. You can change it after installation without an electrician.
Is the alabaster real stone?
Yes — natural quarried alabaster, not resin or glass. The veining in your tube belongs to one block, so yours won't match the photo exactly.
Do I need a bulb?
No. The LED is built in at warm white 2700–3000K — nothing to buy, nothing to fit.
Can I dim it?
Only if it's built that way. Integrated LED can't be made dimmable later — not with a new bulb, not with a new switch. Tell us when you order.
Which way does the light go?
Every direction. The stone wraps the full circumference — down onto the counter, across the room, and up onto the ceiling.
How does it mount?
Two ceiling plates, hardwired. Both need solid framing, so mark the positions before your electrician arrives.
How do I clean it?
A soft dry cloth on both the stone and the leather. No water, no sprays, no leather creams — alabaster is porous.
Made to Order

Three Things to Tell Us Before You Order

Each piece is built after you order it — which means these three are easy to arrange now, and impossible to change once it ships.

01

The veining

Want it paler and more even, with more grey movement, or warmer in tone? Say so and we'll select stone to suit.

The limit: Unable to select an identical texture.

02

The cable length

Each product comes with a 150 cm (59-inch) suspension cable, which can be shortened on-site to suit actual requirements. Please contact us if you need a longer cable.

The limit: cable cannot be added on installation day.

03

A sloped ceiling

The standard canopy is flat; therefore, if installation on a sloped or vaulted ceiling is required, a sloped-ceiling mounting version is necessary. Please contact us regarding the sloped-ceiling mounting model.

Note: Please inform us when placing your order.

One email covers all three. Send your ceiling height, the pitch if it is sloped, and anything you want from the stone — support@vidirlighting.com. We'll photograph the actual stone before it ships, so you see what is coming.

Built Right, Inside and Out

The beauty of a fixture is easy to photograph. What matters just as much is what sits inside the canopy—the driver, the bracket, the wiring, the hardware in the box. Here is how we build for safety and longevity, so the fixture you order arrives ready to install and made to last.

Install the driver, bracket and other components - Vidirlighting
01 · The Driver

An LED Driver Built to Last

We offer integrated LED drivers in a range of styles—dimmable, constant-current, and color-temperature-adjustable—so the fixture can be matched to how you actually light the room. It runs on 110–240V, works straight out of the box on standard US household power, and is rated for both dry and damp locations, so it fits wherever you'd like to install it.

02 · The Bracket

A Solid Mounting Bracket

Every fixture ships with a sturdy mounting bracket sized to a standard US junction box—so it hangs true and stays secure, year after year. No improvising, no trips to the hardware store.

03 · The Box

Everything You Need, in One Box

Open the carton and it's all there—canopy, mounting plate and bracket, screws and wall anchors, the driver, and a pair of clean cotton gloves for handling the glass. Nothing missing, nothing to source separately. It's the small stuff, packed with care, that makes installation day feel easy.

04 · The Wiring

Clean, Color-Coded Wiring

Clearly labeled leads and a tidy factory harness make professional installation quick and unambiguous. Hand it to your electrician and they'll have it up in minutes—standard L / N / E hardwiring, the way a considered fixture should be.

Order with confidence: what arrives at your door is a fixture built to be lived with—considered on the inside, finished on the outside. Wiring should be carried out by a qualified electrician in line with local code.

The alabaster edit

The Vidir lighting edit

The only shade that glows from inside.

Most shades block light and let it out at the edges. Yet, this stone-textured lampshade manages to achieve exactly that.

01

Translucent properties

Alabaster is translucent. Switch it on and the whole shade lights up from within, veining and all, instead of glowing only where the bulb sits. There is no bright spot to look at, because the light source is the entire surface.

02

Naturally formed

The veining was decided underground, long before anyone cut it. Every shade carries its own pattern and its own faint colour shift — so the piece that arrives is not the piece in the photograph, and that is the point.

03

Durable and long-lasting

Resin and acrylic imitations go amber and brittle within a few years of sitting next to a warm bulb. Stone does not age that way. The shade you unpack is the shade you will have in twenty years.

Designed for better living

Stone Light Fixtures

Natural stone is different from metal or glass. Understanding these points before you buy ensures there won't be any surprises after installation.
01

Light Color Defines the Look

Use warm white (2700K). The stone itself has an off-white, creamy tone; cool light passing through it makes it look grayish and dingy, whereas warm light brings out that honey-like hue seen in the photos.

02

Clean Only with a Dry Cloth

Alabaster is a natural stone that absorbs water and cleaning agents, which can leave permanent stains. Disconnect the power, let the bulb cool down, and then wipe the fixture with a soft, dry cloth—do not use water or spray cleaners.

03

It is heavier than it looks.

The density of the stone is far greater than that of a glass shade of the same size; ensure the ceiling's load-bearing capacity is sufficient for safety.

Industrially Replicated Surface

Limitations of resin

Resin is cast in moulds, so the "veining" repeats from one shade to the next and the light passes through evenly with no depth to it. It also ages differently: sitting close to a warm bulb, resin tends to amber and grow brittle within a few years.
