The story
Named after a swing
Think of the swing that hung from an old tree in a summer garden: two ropes, one plank, and the feeling of being held in the air.
Altalena, the Italian word for swing, brings that weightless moment indoors. A long tube of natural alabaster rests in the curve of a leather strap, which drops from two small ceiling canopies and loops gently beneath it. Switch it on and the stone glows from end to end with soft, cloud-like veining, while the relaxed curve of the strap turns a simple linear pendant into a piece of hanging sculpture.
Hang one over a dining table, kitchen island or desk, or gather three or five at staggered heights in a stairwell or double-height entrance, their straps overlapping like a row of swings. In light brown or black leather with gold or black metal, the Altalena suits modern organic, Japandi, Scandinavian, Mediterranean and contemporary interiors.

Is the tube real alabaster?
Yes. Every tube is natural white alabaster, not glass or acrylic. Its veining shows most clearly when the light is on, and varies slightly from piece to piece.
What is the strap made of?
The strap is leather, in light brown or black, paired with gold or black metal canopies and end caps.
Choosing a size
What do L and H mean?
L is the length of the alabaster tube. H is the overall drop, from the ceiling to the lowest point of the strap.
Which length suits my dining table?
As a guide, choose a tube about half to two-thirds the length of your table: 67 cm for a table of 120–160 cm, 83 cm for 160–200 cm, and 100 cm for longer tables under a high ceiling.
When should I choose a set of 3 or 5?
Sets combine different lengths at staggered heights, so the straps overlap in a layered cascade. They are made for stairwells, double-height living rooms, entrance halls and large dining rooms.
How high should my ceiling be?
Over a table, allow roughly H plus 155 cm: about 2.6 m for the 40 cm size and 3.1 m for the 83 cm size. The 100 cm size (H 200 cm) suits rooms with high ceilings, and the sets of 3 and 5 are made for double-height spaces and stairwells.

What kind of light does it give?
A warm 3000K glow from a built-in LED, softened by the stone. There are no bulbs to buy or replace.
Is it dimmable?
The standard Altalena is on/off only. A dimmable version is available on request: please contact us before ordering.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20 for indoor, dry rooms only.
Will it work with the voltage in my country?
Yes. It runs on AC 110–240 V, which covers the US, Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia and most other countries.
How do I install it?
It is a hardwired ceiling pendant. For safety, we recommend installation by a qualified electrician.

Translucent properties
Alabaster is translucent. Switch it on and the whole shade lights up from within, veining and all, instead of glowing only where the bulb sits. There is no bright spot to look at, because the light source is the entire surface.

Naturally formed
The veining was decided underground, long before anyone cut it. Every shade carries its own pattern and its own faint colour shift — so the piece that arrives is not the piece in the photograph, and that is the point.

Durable and long-lasting
Resin and acrylic imitations go amber and brittle within a few years of sitting next to a warm bulb. Stone does not age that way. The shade you unpack is the shade you will have in twenty years.

Light Color Defines the Look
Use warm white (2700K). The stone itself has an off-white, creamy tone; cool light passing through it makes it look grayish and dingy, whereas warm light brings out that honey-like hue seen in the photos.

Clean Only with a Dry Cloth
Alabaster is a natural stone that absorbs water and cleaning agents, which can leave permanent stains. Disconnect the power, let the bulb cool down, and then wipe the fixture with a soft, dry cloth—do not use water or spray cleaners.

It is heavier than it looks.
The density of the stone is far greater than that of a glass shade of the same size; ensure the ceiling's load-bearing capacity is sufficient for safety.

Limitations of resin
Resin is cast in moulds, so the "veining" repeats from one shade to the next and the light passes through evenly with no depth to it. It also ages differently: sitting close to a warm bulb, resin tends to amber and grow brittle within a few years.
