The story

Cascata, a waterfall of stone

Stand beneath a mountain waterfall and you see the water fold over each ledge before it falls again, tier after tier, catching the light.

Cascata, the Italian word for waterfall, holds that moment still in natural alabaster. Slender petals of white stone, each gently curved outwards at the tip, hang from brass hooks on a ring frame and cascade in overlapping tiers. Switch it on and the light passes through every petal from the centre, revealing soft, cloud-like veining and filling the room with a warm, milky glow.

Hang it over a dining table, in an entrance hall, a living room or a stairwell. It suits modern organic, Mediterranean, Hollywood Regency, mid-century inspired and quiet-luxury interiors, and pairs beautifully with travertine, oak, linen and brass.

Each petal is cut from natural white alabaster, so its veining and subtle variations in colour are unique. Your chandelier may differ slightly from the images shown, which is exactly what makes it one of a kind.

A statement for rooms of about 20 m² (215 sq ft) and up. Keep at least 2.1 m (7 ft) of clearance where people walk.
In a stairwell or high ceiling
The tiers read beautifully from below. A longer chain and a sloped-ceiling fitting are available on request.

Before you order

The stone

Are the petals real alabaster?

Yes. Every petal is cut from natural white alabaster, not resin or glass. Its veining shows most clearly when the light is on, and varies from piece to piece.

Why does each petal hang on its own hook?

It makes the chandelier lighter to install and easy to clean: lift a petal off, dust it and hang it back. It also lets every petal settle at its own natural angle.

Can I choose the look of the stone?

Yes. We can select alabaster with a particular look, from creamy and plain to bold, cloud-like veining. Please contact us with the style you have in mind before ordering.

Will my chandelier look exactly like the photos?

Very close, but natural stone is never identical. Each petal’s veining and tone are unique, which is part of its character, not a defect.

Size and placement

Which table size does it suit?

At Ø 80 cm (31.5″), it suits dining tables about 110 cm (43″) wide or more. Hang the lowest petals about 75–90 cm (30–36″) above the tabletop.

How long is the chain?

The Cascata comes with a 150 cm (59.1″) brass chain as standard. Longer chains are available for tall rooms and stairwells: please contact us with your ceiling height before ordering.

Can it be installed on a sloped ceiling?

Yes. We can make a custom canopy for pitched or vaulted ceilings so the chandelier hangs straight. Send us the slope angle and a photo of the space before ordering.

Light and installation

Which bulbs does it use?

E12 bulbs (candelabra, standard in the US and Canada) or E14 bulbs (standard in Europe, the UK and much of Asia), up to 40 W in total. Warm white LED bulbs of 2700–3000K give the softest glow through the stone and stay cool to the touch.

Is it dimmable?

The standard Cascata is on/off only. A dimmable version is available on request: please contact us before ordering.

How is it installed?

It is a hardwired ceiling chandelier. Natural stone is heavy, so we recommend installation by a qualified electrician on a ceiling box rated for the weight, following local electrical codes.

How do I clean it?

Switch off and let the bulbs cool, then dust each petal with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid water and chemical cleaners, as alabaster is a porous natural stone.

How soon will my order ship?

Most shades block light and let it out at the edges. Yet, this stone-textured lampshade manages to achieve exactly that.

Translucent properties

Alabaster is translucent. Switch it on and the whole shade lights up from within, veining and all, instead of glowing only where the bulb sits. There is no bright spot to look at, because the light source is the entire surface.

Naturally formed

The veining was decided underground, long before anyone cut it. Every shade carries its own pattern and its own faint colour shift — so the piece that arrives is not the piece in the photograph, and that is the point.

Durable and long-lasting

Resin and acrylic imitations go amber and brittle within a few years of sitting next to a warm bulb. Stone does not age that way. The shade you unpack is the shade you will have in twenty years.

Light Color Defines the Look

Use warm white (2700K). The stone itself has an off-white, creamy tone; cool light passing through it makes it look grayish and dingy, whereas warm light brings out that honey-like hue seen in the photos.

Clean Only with a Dry Cloth

Alabaster is a natural stone that absorbs water and cleaning agents, which can leave permanent stains. Disconnect the power, let the bulb cool down, and then wipe the fixture with a soft, dry cloth—do not use water or spray cleaners.

It is heavier than it looks.

The density of the stone is far greater than that of a glass shade of the same size; ensure the ceiling's load-bearing capacity is sufficient for safety.

Industrially Replicated Surface

Limitations of resin

Resin is cast in moulds, so the "veining" repeats from one shade to the next and the light passes through evenly with no depth to it. It also ages differently: sitting close to a warm bulb, resin tends to amber and grow brittle within a few years.

Looks beautiful, arrived with faulty LED driver

Looks beautiful, but arrived with a faulty LED driver and burnt out the LED string light. Basically broke within minutes of it being wired in. Luckily I found a local lighting company who had a similar LED driver and was able to replace the LED lights. It’s a very custom lighting system that you can not easily replace. Buyer beware of that.

Exceptional visual quality.

Honestly, the final look completely won me over! Each hook is designed in a reasonable way, so that the glass tubes hang naturally in a staggered manner, without the rigid feel of an industrial mold. I am very satisfied with this light fixture.

I ditched my table lamps and installed these on either side of the bed for reading and ambiance. Not only did it free up space on my nightstands, but it also gives the entire room a clean, sophisticated, and high-end look. The lighting was just right, soft and gentle. I love it!
