The Tamsin Capsule Alabaster Rod Pendant hangs capsules of natural alabaster from rigid metal rods in a dark bronze finish — each one capped by a domed fitting, joined by a small sphere, and finished with a tiny finial beneath the stone. Available as a single pendant, or as a 3-light or 6-light cluster on a round ceiling plate with the rods cut to staggered lengths.

The rods are the whole argument. Almost every cluster chandelier hangs on cords, and a cord does what a cord does — it twists, it swings when a door opens, and over a year the careful stagger you set on installation day drifts quietly out of alignment. A rod cannot. The heights are cut before it ships and they stay exactly where they were put, which is why a rod cluster reads as engineered while a cord cluster reads as arranged. The trade-off is honest: the lengths are decided at the time of order, not on site.

Rods, not cords — and the length is fixed before it ships

This is the one thing to settle before you order. Nearly every cluster pendant hangs on cords you shorten on installation day. This one does not. The rods are cut at our workshop and cannot be adjusted on site — so the drop has to be right before it leaves us. Send us your ceiling height and what sits underneath and we will confirm the lengths before anything is cut.

Built-in LED — so decide dimming now

The LED is part of the fixture, running at warm white 3000K. Nothing to source and nothing to match between capsules — but it also means you cannot make it dimmable afterwards by changing a bulb. A dimmable version is available and has to be specified at the time of order; (Please contact us if you require a dimmable version.)

The design

A Cord Moves. A Rod Doesn't.

Which is the whole reason this one is built the harder way.

Hang a cluster on cords and something happens that nobody warns you about. On installation day the heights are set carefully, one at a time, from a ladder — and it looks exactly right. Then a year passes. A door slams and the cords swing. Someone brushes past and one shade turns to face a different way. A cord takes a slow twist it never quite comes out of. Nothing dramatic, nothing you could point to on any given morning, and yet the arrangement you paid for is quietly no longer the arrangement you have.

Tamsin hangs on rigid rods. They do not swing, they do not twist, and they do not drift. The stagger is cut into the fixture before it leaves the workshop, and it stays exactly there for as long as the piece is on the ceiling — the same on the day it is installed, the same in ten years. It is the difference between a cluster that reads as arranged and one that reads as engineered.

The honesty of it is that this cuts both ways. A rod cannot be shortened on installation day the way a cord can. The drop has to be decided before we cut, which means one measurement matters more here than on anything else we make. We would rather say that plainly than let it be discovered on a ladder — and it is exactly the same rigidity that keeps the piece where it was put.

Can the rods be shortened when it's installed?
No — they're cut before it ships. Unlike a cord, a rigid rod can't be adjusted on the day. Send us your ceiling height before ordering and we'll cut them to suit.
Why rods instead of cords, then?
Because a rod never swings, twists or drifts. The stagger you receive is the stagger you'll still have in ten years. Cords slowly move out of alignment; rods can't.
Which size do I need?
Measure your ceiling height, not your table. This cluster grows downward — a 15-head is only 10″ wider than a 3-head, but drops 8 feet further. Tell us the height and we'll match it.
Will it light my kitchen counter?
Not for chopping. The capsule is closed at the bottom, so light glows through the stone rather than shining down. Beautiful over an island — but add a task light if you cook under it.
Is there a bulb to replace?
No. The LED is built in at warm white 3000K — nothing to buy and nothing to match between capsules.
Can I dim it?
Yes, but tell us when you order. With a built-in LED there's no bulb to swap later, so the dimmable version has to be specified up front.
Why is the metal dark instead of gold?
Deliberately. Brass blends into pale stone; dark bronze contrasts with it — so the metal recedes and the stone looks brighter.
Is it real stone?
Yes — quarried alabaster, never resin. That's why every capsule has its own veining, which shows most clearly once the light is on.
Will the capsules match each other?
No. Some are faint and cloudy, some carry a strong amber grain. On a multi-head cluster that's the first thing you notice — and a set that matched exactly would have to be plastic.
How high should it hang?
30–36″ above a tabletop, or 7 ft above the floor where people walk. In a stairwell, check it clears every landing, not just the bottom floor.
Will my ceiling hold it?
Stone and metal weigh more than they photograph. Have your electrician confirm the box is fixed into a joist, not plasterboard — and ask us for the weight of your configuration first.
How do I clean it?
Soft dry cloth only. Alabaster is porous — water soaks in and leaves a mark that won't buff out. Once or twice a year is plenty.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
No — indoor dry rooms only. No protection against water or steam, and the stone is porous.
