Ellery Alabaster Dome Cluster Chandelier Stand at the bottom of a stairwell and look up. That is the view this fixture was drawn for. The domes don't sit in a ring or a tier — each one hangs from its own cord, cut to its own length, so they fall through the space in a slow spiral. From the hall you see the lowest three. From the landing you are standing among them. From the top you look straight down through the whole descent at once.

Every shade is natural alabaster, cut into a rounded dome with soft petal folds running down its sides — closer to a flower bud than to a globe. Alabaster is quarried, not manufactured, so the veining in each one belongs to a single block of stone. Unlit, they read as a cluster of pale, closed forms. Lit, the veins surface like ink in water, and each dome glows a slightly different warmth than the one beside it. It is the reason an alabaster cluster chandelier holds attention where a glass one doesn't: there is actually something to look at in each piece.

The design

Designed to Be Seen From Three Floors

A ring looks the same from everywhere. This does not.

Most multi-light fixtures hang their shades at one height, in a circle. That works when there is only one place to stand. But the rooms that need a fixture like this — stairwells, double-height entries, open landings — are rooms you move through and look at from more than one level. A ring gives all of them the same view.

Ellery was drawn the other way round. Every cord is cut to a different length, so the domes fall through the space in a slow spiral rather than sitting in a row. What that buys you is not decoration — it is a fixture that changes as you climb.

Quarried stone means the veining in each one belongs to a single block, so no two domes in your cluster will match — a claim that is impossible to check on a single pendant, and obvious the moment a dozen of them hang in the same volume of air.

Everything else is made to disappear. Black cords, a black canopy, nothing brushed or gleaming. Against a white ceiling the cords read as thin lines and the eye goes straight to the stone. That restraint is what lets eleven lights sit in a modern house without becoming a statement piece — and it is why, lit, all you see is warm stone hanging in the dark.

Common Questions

The things people ask before they order.

Is it real stone?
Yes — natural alabaster, not resin or glass. Every dome has its own veining, so no two in your cluster will match.
Which size do I need?
3 heads for a table or island on a normal ceiling. 7 for a stairwell. 9 or 11 for a double-height void. Send us your ceiling height if unsure.
Are the pendants all the same height?
No — every cord is a different length, so the domes spiral down through the space. You can shorten them at installation.
Can the cords be made longer?
Yes, free of charge — but tell us your ceiling height before we ship. Extending them afterwards is much harder.
What bulbs does it take?
E12, 40W max per socket. Use 2700–3000K warm white — and the same bulb in every socket, or one will glow a different colour.
Can I dim it?
Only with dimmable bulbs on a compatible dimmer. The bulbs we send as standard are not dimmable — ask and we'll swap them.
Is it bright enough for a stairwell?
Yes. Each dome throws light downward, so a cluster lights the treads at several levels rather than one flat wash from the top.
How heavy is it?
Stone is heavier than glass. Have an electrician check your ceiling box before installing, especially on the 9 and 11-head sizes.
How do I clean it?
A soft dry cloth. No water, no sprays — alabaster is porous. In a stairwell, once a year is enough.

Before You Order

Sloped or Vaulted Ceiling? Talk to Us First

The canopy supplied as standard is made to sit flat against a level ceiling. On a sloped, vaulted or cathedral ceiling it needs a sloped-ceiling adapter so the fixture hangs plumb rather than at an angle — and on a cluster, the cord lengths have to be recalculated as well, since the ceiling is higher at one side than the other.

None of that is a problem, but it has to be done before we ship.

Translucent properties

Alabaster is translucent. Switch it on and the whole shade lights up from within, veining and all, instead of glowing only where the bulb sits. There is no bright spot to look at, because the light source is the entire surface.

Naturally formed

The veining was decided underground, long before anyone cut it. Every shade carries its own pattern and its own faint colour shift — so the piece that arrives is not the piece in the photograph, and that is the point.

Resin and acrylic imitations go amber and brittle within a few years of sitting next to a warm bulb. Stone does not age that way. The shade you unpack is the shade you will have in twenty years.

Light Color Defines the Look

Use warm white (2700K). The stone itself has an off-white, creamy tone; cool light passing through it makes it look grayish and dingy, whereas warm light brings out that honey-like hue seen in the photos.

Clean Only with a Dry Cloth

Alabaster is a natural stone that absorbs water and cleaning agents, which can leave permanent stains. Disconnect the power, let the bulb cool down, and then wipe the fixture with a soft, dry cloth—do not use water or spray cleaners.

It is heavier than it looks.

The density of the stone is far greater than that of a glass shade of the same size; ensure the ceiling's load-bearing capacity is sufficient for safety.

Limitations of resin

Resin is cast in moulds, so the "veining" repeats from one shade to the next and the light passes through evenly with no depth to it. It also ages differently: sitting close to a warm bulb, resin tends to amber and grow brittle within a few years.
