Start with the table, not the room. A chandelier over a table should be roughly half to two-thirds of the table's width. That puts the 37.8″ over a round table of 56–72″ or a rectangular one 46–56″ wide, and the 50″ over a long table of 72–96″. Leave at least 6″ of clear tabletop beyond the arms on every side so nobody reaches through it for the salt.
Then check the height, and remember it runs backwards here. The 37.8″ is 34.6″ deep; the 50″ is only 26.8″. Over a table, hang the lowest point 30–36″ above the tabletop — which on a 9 ft ceiling the shallower 50″ manages comfortably while the 37.8″ is tighter. If your ceiling is 8 ft, neither is the right fixture; a flush or semi-flush is.
