The story

Collana, jewellery for your wall

Some pieces of jewellery are worn every day; others are saved for evenings, when the light catches them just so.

Collana, the Italian word for necklace, is made for those evenings, and it hangs on your wall. Beads of natural white alabaster, each with its own cloud-like veining, are strung together with small glowing rings of warm 3000K LED light between them. Switch it on and the whole strand lights up from within: the rings glow, the stone turns soft and luminous, and the wall around it fills with a gentle halo.

Wear it straight, in a single swag or a layered double swag, above a bed or a console, beside a mirror or along a hallway. It suits modern organic, quiet luxury, Japandi, Art Deco and contemporary interiors.

The stone and the light

Are the beads real alabaster?

Yes. Every bead is natural white alabaster, not glass or resin, so its veining varies from bead to bead, like pearls on a strand.

Where does the light come from?

From small warm white 3000K LED rings between the beads. They light each stone from within and cast a soft halo on the wall.

Do I need to buy bulbs?

No. The LED is built in, so there are no bulbs to buy or replace.

Is it dimmable?

The standard Collana is on/off only. A dimmable version is available on request: please contact us before ordering.

Choosing a style

Which style should I choose?

The straight drop (Ø 10 × H 66 cm) suits narrow walls, hallways and the sides of a mirror. The single swag (L 52 × H 38 cm) is a centrepiece above a bed or console. The double swag (L 80 × H 47 cm) makes the boldest statement on a wide wall.

Can I buy two as a pair?

Yes. Two straight drops either side of a mirror or a bed give a balanced, symmetrical look, and choosing the size marked (*2) gets you two at a better price than buying them separately.

Can I choose the veining of the beads?

Yes. We can select alabaster with a particular look, from creamy and plain to bold, cloud-like veining. Please contact us with the style you have in mind before ordering.

Installation and care

How is it installed?

It is an indoor wall light. For safety, we recommend installation by a qualified electrician, following local electrical codes.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

No. It is rated IP20 for indoor, dry rooms only.

How do I clean it?

Switch off, then dust the beads with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid water and chemical cleaners, as alabaster is a porous natural stone.

Most shades block light and let it out at the edges. Yet, this stone-textured lampshade manages to achieve exactly that.

Translucent properties

Alabaster is translucent. Switch it on and the whole shade lights up from within, veining and all, instead of glowing only where the bulb sits. There is no bright spot to look at, because the light source is the entire surface.

Naturally formed

The veining was decided underground, long before anyone cut it. Every shade carries its own pattern and its own faint colour shift — so the piece that arrives is not the piece in the photograph, and that is the point.

Durable and long-lasting

Resin and acrylic imitations go amber and brittle within a few years of sitting next to a warm bulb. Stone does not age that way. The shade you unpack is the shade you will have in twenty years.

Light Color Defines the Look

Use warm white (2700K). The stone itself has an off-white, creamy tone; cool light passing through it makes it look grayish and dingy, whereas warm light brings out that honey-like hue seen in the photos.

Clean Only with a Dry Cloth

Alabaster is a natural stone that absorbs water and cleaning agents, which can leave permanent stains. Disconnect the power, let the bulb cool down, and then wipe the fixture with a soft, dry cloth—do not use water or spray cleaners.

It is heavier than it looks.

The density of the stone is far greater than that of a glass shade of the same size; ensure the ceiling's load-bearing capacity is sufficient for safety.

Limitations of resin

Resin is cast in moulds, so the "veining" repeats from one shade to the next and the light passes through evenly with no depth to it. It also ages differently: sitting close to a warm bulb, resin tends to amber and grow brittle within a few years.

Looks beautiful, arrived with faulty LED driver

Looks beautiful, but arrived with a faulty LED driver and burnt out the LED string light. Basically broke within minutes of it being wired in. Luckily I found a local lighting company who had a similar LED driver and was able to replace the LED lights. It’s a very custom lighting system that you can not easily replace. Buyer beware of that.

Exceptional visual quality.

Honestly, the final look completely won me over! Each hook is designed in a reasonable way, so that the glass tubes hang naturally in a staggered manner, without the rigid feel of an industrial mold. I am very satisfied with this light fixture.

Perfect as an ambient light for the bedroom.

I ditched my table lamps and installed these on either side of the bed for reading and ambiance. Not only did it free up space on my nightstands, but it also gives the entire room a clean, sophisticated, and high-end look. The lighting was just right, soft and gentle. I love it!
