01

Gathered from the Sea

Every shell disc is one of a kind

Each disc of this capiz shell chandelier is a genuine, hand-trimmed natural seashell — no two share the same texture, translucency, or subtle iridescence. Formed by the ocean and finished by hand, the shells give your natural shell ceiling light an organic, irregular beauty that exists nowhere else. It's not molded plastic, not printed acrylic — it's a real piece of the sea, and it belongs to no one else but you.

02

A Warm, Iridescent Glow

Soft mother-of-pearl light

What makes capiz shell so captivating is the way it handles light. Each translucent shell filters the glow into a soft, warm, mother-of-pearl shimmer, hiding the source and scattering a gentle iridescence across the room. In an instant a stairwell, entryway, or dining room settles into serene, quiet luxury — the atmospheric quality designers reach for in fine coastal lighting, and a glow no flat plastic shade can imitate.

03

A Cascading Column of Light

Built for vertical space

Layer upon layer of shell discs form a rhythmic, cylindrical column that guides light and shadow gracefully downward. The tall, vertical silhouette makes this shell flush mount a piece of suspended sculpture — lit or unlit — and it's designed to fill the height that most fixtures can't: soaring stairwells, double-height entryways, and grand rooms where a wide fixture would feel lost. Space-saving at the ceiling, dramatic all the way down.

04

Made to Fit Your Space

Two sizes, two finishes

This capiz shell flush mount is built to scale with your ceiling. Choose the ∅15.7″×H40.9″ or the grand ∅23.6″×H59.1″, in a Gold or Chrome frame paired with natural white shell. The 150cm cable can be shortened on install or extended on request, so it hangs perfectly whether over a stairwell or an entry. Crafted from genuine shell on a solid iron frame, it's a lasting, sculptural centerpiece — an heirloom, not a trend.

Why Natural Capiz Shell, Not Plastic

A side-by-side comparison of materials

Dimension Natural Capiz Shell Plastic / Acrylic Imitation
Material & Character Genuine hand-trimmed seashell—each disc has its own texture and organic beauty Molded plastic or acrylic—flat, uniform, and identical unit to unit
Light & Glow Translucent shell scatters a soft, warm mother-of-pearl iridescence Passes light flatly, with a dull or artificial sheen and no depth
Feel & Quality Natural, substantial shell with genuine, high-end presence Lightweight and plasticky, often feeling cheap up close
Character Over Time Natural shell keeps its lustre and never yellows under the bulb Plastic yellows, clouds, and grows brittle when heated over time

Cylindrical Capiz Shell Flush-Mount Chandelier — A flush-mount fixture crafted from natural shells. Layers of hand-strung, circular Capiz shell discs form a slender cylindrical silhouette, softly diffusing light downward from the ceiling. Each translucent shell radiates a gentle, warm, pearlescent glow; whether illuminated or not, the fixture stands as a piece of suspended modern sculptural art. Its vertical profile is perfectly suited for soaring spaces, while the space-saving flush-mount design makes it an ideal choice for high-ceilinged stairwells, grand foyers, and elegant dining rooms—particularly in areas where long, low-hanging pendants are impractical.

  • Selected Natural Shells — Each disc is individually trimmed, preserving unique natural textures and a dynamic, organic beauty.
  • Layered Cylindrical Design — Overlapping shell discs create a rhythmic cylindrical structure, offering the aesthetic appeal of a suspended sculpture whether the light is on or off.

Questions, Answered

Capiz Shell Chandelier FAQ

What sizes are available, and which should I choose?
Two sizes: Small ∅15.7″×H40.9″ for entryways, powder rooms, and standard-ceiling spots; and Large ∅23.6″×H59.1″ for soaring stairwells, double-height foyers, and high-ceiling living or dining rooms. The tall column is designed to fill vertical space beautifully.
Are the shells real capiz shell?
Yes — each disc is a genuine, hand-trimmed natural capiz seashell, never a plastic imitation. Slight variation in texture and tone from shell to shell is the mark of authentic material, and it's exactly what gives the fixture its warm, iridescent glow.
Is this a flush mount or a hanging fixture?
It's a flush-mount style with a vertical, columnar profile — the base sits close to the ceiling while the shell column extends downward, giving you the drama of a chandelier that fills tall, vertical spaces where a wide fixture would feel lost.
What finishes are available?
Choose a Gold or Chrome metal frame, both paired with natural white shell — pick the finish that best suits your room's palette.
What bulb does it use, and is it dimmable?
It uses an E26/E27-base bulb.
How do I clean and care for the shells?
Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth or a light dusting brush. Avoid water, harsh chemicals, and abrasive pads — capiz is a natural material. With simple care, the shells keep their warm lustre for years.
Is it hard to install — do I need an electrician?
The base is a hardwired ceiling fixture (L/N/E wiring) and installs like a standard flush mount; the shell strands are then hung individually. Because the fixture is tall — especially the large size — and needs height access, we recommend a qualified electrician and a helper. Always cut power at the breaker first.

Natural capiz shell discs and strands in the workshop
Vidir lighting / 01

Natural shell lighting

The soft glow ofcapiz

Grown in the sea, cut by hand, strung one disc at a time. Light with nothing hard left in it.

Hand-strung, shell by shell

The shell edit

The Vidir lighting edit

Made the slow way, one disc at a time.

Nothing about a capiz shade is stamped or moulded. Every disc passes through someone's hands before it reaches a strand — which is why it hangs and catches light the way it does.

Linked capiz shell disc strands, texture detail
01

Strung by hand, link by link

No moulds, no sheets, no shortcuts

Discs are graded for clarity, punched to size and edge-sanded, then threaded by eye. A machine cuts faster, but it cannot decide which shell belongs next to which — and that is what makes a strand fall properly instead of hanging flat.

Hand-crafted capiz shell disc strand, close-up detail
02

Real shell, never resin film

Windowpane oyster, cut from the shell itself

Each disc carries its own faint growth rings and its own shift in tone. Resin imitations repeat one pattern down the whole strand and turn amber within a few years beside a warm bulb. Shell does neither.

Brass and chrome framed tiered capiz shell chandeliers, lit
03

Light with no hard edge

Diffused through hundreds of surfaces

Switched on, the beam meets disc after disc and arrives soft. No bright spot to look at, nothing glaring off a table or a screen — just a wide, even warmth that settles over the room instead of pointing at it.

Turn the sound on

It answers when the room moves.

Open a window, walk past it, brush it with your hand — and the discs touch. What you hear is not a chime or a rattle but something lighter: a dry, delicate clicking, the sound of thin shell against thin shell. Most fixtures are silent objects. This one is not.

Soft, never sharp Shell is light and slightly flexible, so the discs meet without the hard ring of glass or metal.
Only when it moves Still air, silent fixture. It speaks on a draught, an open door, a hand passing by.
Better near a window Hallways, stairwells and rooms with a cross-breeze are where people notice it most.

How it is made

From a sack of shells to a lit room.

Six stages, nearly all of them done by hand in our own workshop. The one machine we use cuts the discs, because a laser holds a tolerance a knife cannot. Everything before and after it is somebody's judgement.

01

Graded on arrival

Shells come in sacked and unsorted. Anything cloudy, cracked or too thick to pass light is pulled before a cut is made.

02

Soaked and cleaned

Days in fresh water lift the sand and crust. Rushing this leaves a haze in the shell that no amount of polishing will take out.

03

Laser cut, edge sanded

Discs are cut to a consistent size so the strands hang true, then every edge is smoothed by hand so nothing snags.

04

Sorted for tone

Pieces are laid out and matched by clarity. The palest go where the light is strongest, so no strand reads darker than the rest.

05

Frame built and plated

Rings are rolled true, welded and finished in brass or chrome. Any twist in the ring shows the moment the fixture hangs.

06

Hung, wired and lit

Strands go on one at a time and are levelled tier by tier. Every fixture is powered up and checked before it is wrapped.

By hand Cleaning, sorting, threading and assembly, all in our own workshop
Lit before packing Every fixture is powered up and inspected, not spot-checked in batches
No two alike Variation in tone and ring pattern is the material, not a fault

Inside the workshop

The floor where all of this actually happens.

Not a rendering, not a stock clip. This is the bench where the shells are sorted, the rings are welded and the strands go on — and the room next door where every finished fixture hangs and is switched on before it leaves.

One roof Cleaning, cutting, threading, metalwork and wiring, all in the same building
Every piece Hung and lit on the display floor before it is wrapped and crated
No production line One person follows a fixture through, instead of each pair of hands doing a single step

Why shell

Same bulb, same room, completely different light.

Every shade is a decision about what happens to the light before it reaches you. Glass sharpens it, fabric flattens it, resin dulls it. Shell breaks it up — and that is the whole reason to choose it.

Natural capiz shell chandelier in a coastal japandi living room Capiz shell chandelier · living room
01

It scatters instead of shining

Light passes through hundreds of thin, overlapping surfaces before it leaves the fixture. What reaches the room has already lost its edge — no bright core to look at, no glare off a table or a screen.

02

It is light enough for any ceiling

A shell fixture of this size weighs a fraction of the glass equivalent. No special bracing, no anchoring into a joist, no electrician telling you the box will not take it.

03

It does not yellow

Resin imitations amber within a few years of sitting beside a warm bulb, and fabric collects dust it never gives back. Shell is mineral. It stays the colour it arrived.

04

It belongs in more rooms than you think

Pearl white on brass reads coastal; the same shade on chrome reads modern; against pale wood and linen it reads japandi. The material is quiet enough to take on the room around it.

Shell against the alternatives

Capiz shell Glass Fabric Resin imitation
Light quality Diffused through many layers, soft and wide Bright, directional, prone to hotspots Even but flat, absorbs a lot of output Diffused, but dull and slightly grey
Weight Light — standard ceiling boxes are fine Heavy, often needs reinforced fixing Light Light
How it ages Stays its colour, mineral and stable Stable, but chips and cracks Yellows, sags, holds dust Ambers beside a warm bulb
Pattern Every disc different, growth rings visible Uniform by design Uniform weave One pattern repeated down the strand
Sound A soft clicking on a draught A hard ring, or silence Silent A plastic rattle
