The story
Soffione, a dandelion of glass
Every child knows the moment: you pick a dandelion clock, take a breath, and the seeds burst outwards in a perfect sphere of light.
Soffione, the Italian word for a dandelion clock, captures that instant in glass. Slender gold rods radiate from a central core, and at the tip of each one sits a round disc of pressed glass, finely patterned with a sunburst of ridges and rings, like the tiny parasol of a dandelion seed. Two sizes of disc are layered together to form a full, airy sphere.
Switch it on and the light catches every ridge, so the whole chandelier sparkles in soft pink or fresh green. Hung from a 150 cm gold chain above a dining table, in a living room, a bedroom or an entrance hall, the Soffione brings the joy of 1960s Italian design to modern, eclectic, Hollywood Regency and Art Deco interiors.

What are the glass discs like?
Each disc is pressed glass with a fine sunburst of ridges and rings, in two sizes: 11 cm (4.3″) and 15 cm (5.9″). The pattern catches the light from the bulbs inside and makes the whole sphere sparkle.
Pink or green?
Pink gives a soft, rosy glow that feels romantic and warm, lovely in bedrooms and dining rooms. Green is fresher and more natural, beautiful with wood, plants and linen. Both sit on a gold frame.

Over a dining table, hang the bottom of the sphere about 75–90 cm (30–36″) above the tabletop. Where people walk underneath, keep at least 2.1 m (7 ft) of clearance.
Light and installation
Which bulbs does it use?
E12 bulbs (candelabra, standard in the US and Canada) or E14 bulbs (standard in Europe, the UK and much of Asia): 9 on the Ø 40 cm size and 13 on the Ø 60 cm size. Small warm white LED bulbs of 2700–3000K make the glass sparkle and stay cool to the touch.
Is it dimmable?
The standard Soffione is on/off only. A dimmable version is available on request: please contact us before ordering.
How is it installed?
It is a hardwired ceiling chandelier that hangs from a gold canopy on a 150 cm (59.1″) chain. For safety, we recommend installation by a qualified electrician, following local electrical codes.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20 for indoor, dry rooms only.
Care and ordering
How do I clean it?
Switch off and let the bulbs cool, then dust the discs with a soft brush or wipe them with a dry or lightly damp microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which can dull the pressed pattern.

Every glass shade in this series is made by hand. Artisans gather molten glass, then turn, stretch and shape it with heat and hand tools until the form feels just right.
No two pieces leave the workshop exactly alike. The small differences in curve, thickness and tone are what give handmade glass its warmth and depth.

The glass is worked while it is still molten, so every curve is guided by eye and feel instead of being stamped out as identical parts.
