Lente, light through a lens of glass

On a Venetian afternoon, sunlight bounces off the canal and dances across old plaster walls in shifting ripples.

Lente, the Italian word for lens, brings that moving light indoors. Thirteen discs of hammered glass, each gently cupped like a lens, hang in three tiers on slender gold rods in front of a gold backplate. Switch it on and three hidden lights shine through every disc: the hammered texture breaks the light into soft ripples that spread across the wall, while the glass glows green, amber or crystal clear.

Hang a pair either side of a bed, a mirror or a fireplace, or use them along a hallway or staircase. The Lente suits mid-century modern, retro, Hollywood Regency, eclectic and Art Deco interiors.

The glass and light

Why does it cast ripples on the wall?

Each of the 13 discs has a hammered surface that works like a small lens, breaking the light into soft, water-like ripples instead of a flat glow. Clear glass gives the sharpest pattern.

Green, amber or clear?

Clear gives the brightest light and sharpest ripples; amber the warmest, golden glow; green the deepest, most vintage atmosphere. All three sit on a gold frame.

Is every glass disc the same?

They share the same shape and colour, but the hammered texture and depth of colour vary slightly from piece to piece. That is the natural character of formed glass, not a defect.

Can I order another glass colour?

Yes. Other glass colours can be made on request: please contact us before ordering.

How big is the Lente?

It measures Ø 38 cm × H 38 cm (Ø 15″ × H 15″), with 13 glass discs of 12 cm (4.7″) each.

How high should I mount it?

In living rooms and hallways, place the centre about 150–165 cm (60–66″) from the floor. Beside a bed, about 120–150 cm (48–60″) works best.

Should I buy one or a pair?

A pair either side of a bed, mirror or fireplace gives the most balanced look, and choosing the size marked (*2) gets you two at a better price. A single sconce makes a lovely focal point in a hallway.

Installation and care

Which bulbs does it use?

Three E12 bulbs (candelabra, standard in the US and Canada) or E14 bulbs (standard in Europe, the UK and much of Asia), up to 40 W in total. Warm white LED bulbs of 2700–3000K bring out the colour of the glass and stay cool.

Is it dimmable?

The standard Lente is on/off only. A dimmable version is available on request: please contact us before ordering.

How is it installed?

It is an indoor wall light. For safety, we recommend installation by a qualified electrician, following local electrical codes.

How do I clean the glass?

Switch off and let the bulbs cool, then wipe each disc with a soft, dry or lightly damp microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which can dull the hammered texture.

Glass Shaped by Hand

Every glass shade in this series is made by hand. Artisans gather molten glass, then turn, stretch and shape it with heat and hand tools until the form feels just right.

No two pieces leave the workshop exactly alike. The small differences in curve, thickness and tone are what give handmade glass its warmth and depth.

Formed in the heat

The glass is worked while it is still molten, so every curve is guided by eye and feel instead of being stamped out as identical parts.
Shaped with hand tools

Traditional tools are used to pull, pinch and smooth the glass, leaving the subtle marks of the maker's hand in the finished piece.
Cooled slowly for strength

Finished pieces are cooled gradually so the glass settles evenly, helping it stay strong and stable in everyday use.

Tiny bubbles, faint swirls and slight shifts in color are natural in handmade glass, and they make each piece one of a kind.

Looks beautiful, arrived with faulty LED driver

Looks beautiful, but arrived with a faulty LED driver and burnt out the LED string light. Basically broke within minutes of it being wired in. Luckily I found a local lighting company who had a similar LED driver and was able to replace the LED lights. It’s a very custom lighting system that you can not easily replace. Buyer beware of that.

Exceptional visual quality.

Honestly, the final look completely won me over! Each hook is designed in a reasonable way, so that the glass tubes hang naturally in a staggered manner, without the rigid feel of an industrial mold. I am very satisfied with this light fixture.

Perfect as an ambient light for the bedroom.

I ditched my table lamps and installed these on either side of the bed for reading and ambiance. Not only did it free up space on my nightstands, but it also gives the entire room a clean, sophisticated, and high-end look. The lighting was just right, soft and gentle. I love it!
