The story

Ulivo, an ancient olive tree bearing fruit of stone

On the hillsides of southern Italy stand olive trees hundreds of years old, their trunks twisted and furrowed by time, yet still heavy with fruit every autumn.

Ulivo, the Italian word for olive tree, brings that quiet strength indoors. Sculpted copper branches, finished in a deep antique bronze with a bark-like texture, twist and reach outwards in every direction. At the tip of each branch rests a sphere of natural white alabaster, in a mix of sizes like fruit ripening on the tree. Switch it on and every stone glows warm from within, revealing its own amber veining.

Its long, linear form is made for dining tables, and it comes in three lengths with 12, 14 or 16 stones. It suits organic modern, wabi-sabi, Mediterranean, rustic luxe and quiet-luxury interiors.

Choosing your Ulivo

Which size suits my dining table?

A linear chandelier looks best at about half to two-thirds of the table length. The 80 cm (12 lights) suits tables of about 120–160 cm; the 100 cm (14 lights) suits 160–200 cm; the 140 cm (16 lights) suits 200–260 cm.

Are the globes real alabaster?

Yes. Every globe is natural white alabaster, not glass or resin, so its veining and colour are unique.

What are the branches made of?

Copper, sculpted with a bark-like texture and finished in a deep antique bronze patina.

Height, bulbs and installation

How high should it hang?

Over a table, hang the lowest globes about 75–90 cm (30–36″) above the surface. The 150 cm (59.1″) chain can be shortened on site; a longer chain is available on request.

Which bulbs does it use?

G9 bulbs, one per globe: 12, 14 or 16 depending on the size. Warm white LED G9 bulbs of 2700–3000K give the softest glow through the stone and stay cool.

Is it dimmable?

The standard Ulivo is on/off only, and fitting dimmable bulbs will not change that. A dimmable version is available on request: please contact us before ordering.

Do I need an electrician?

Yes. With solid copper branches and stone globes, it should be hardwired by a qualified electrician on a ceiling box rated for the weight, following local electrical codes.

Care and delivery

How do I clean it?

Switch off and let it cool, then dust the stones and branches with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid water and chemical cleaners, as alabaster is a porous natural stone.

How soon will my order ship?

Each chandelier is prepared at our factory in 5–10 days, then dispatched to you. You will see the delivery estimate for your country at checkout.

Most shades block light and let it out at the edges. Yet, this stone-textured lampshade manages to achieve exactly that.

Translucent properties

Alabaster is translucent. Switch it on and the whole shade lights up from within, veining and all, instead of glowing only where the bulb sits. There is no bright spot to look at, because the light source is the entire surface.

Naturally formed

The veining was decided underground, long before anyone cut it. Every shade carries its own pattern and its own faint colour shift — so the piece that arrives is not the piece in the photograph, and that is the point.

Durable and long-lasting

Resin and acrylic imitations go amber and brittle within a few years of sitting next to a warm bulb. Stone does not age that way. The shade you unpack is the shade you will have in twenty years.

Natural stone is different from metal or glass. Understanding these points before you buy ensures there won't be any surprises after installation.

Light Color Defines the Look

Use warm white (2700K). The stone itself has an off-white, creamy tone; cool light passing through it makes it look grayish and dingy, whereas warm light brings out that honey-like hue seen in the photos.

Clean Only with a Dry Cloth

Alabaster is a natural stone that absorbs water and cleaning agents, which can leave permanent stains. Disconnect the power, let the bulb cool down, and then wipe the fixture with a soft, dry cloth—do not use water or spray cleaners.

It is heavier than it looks.

The density of the stone is far greater than that of a glass shade of the same size; ensure the ceiling's load-bearing capacity is sufficient for safety.

Limitations of resin

Resin is cast in moulds, so the "veining" repeats from one shade to the next and the light passes through evenly with no depth to it. It also ages differently: sitting close to a warm bulb, resin tends to amber and grow brittle within a few years.
