The story
Nastro, ribbons of glass
In the glass workshops of mid-century Italy, makers pulled molten glass into thick, glowing ribbons and bent each one into a soft wave before it cooled.
The Nastro, Italian for ribbon, brings that idea home. Dozens of thick ribbons of textured glass, each gently waved, stand side by side in rings and are layered in tiers beneath a gold frame. Switch it on and the light passes through every ribbon, catching the ripples in the glass and scattering a soft, water-like pattern across the ceiling.
Mounted close to the ceiling as a semi-flush mount, the Nastro gives a bedroom, living room, dining room or entryway the sparkle of a chandelier without hanging low. In tea, amber, green or clear glass, it suits mid-century modern, retro, eclectic, Art Deco and contemporary interiors.
Glass colour
Four moods of glass
The colour of the glass sets the mood of the whole room. Clear is the brightest, amber the warmest.
-
Tea
Smoky brown with a golden glow inside: rich and sophisticated.
-
Amber
Warm and honeyed, like late-afternoon sun. The warmest light.
-
Green
Deep olive glass with a vintage, botanical feel.
-
Clear
Bright and sparkling, with every ripple on show. The brightest light.
Each ribbon is formed glass, so its texture, tiny bubbles and depth of colour vary slightly from piece to piece. This is part of the character of the glass, not a defect.

The glass
What is the glass like?
Each ribbon is a thick strip of textured glass, formed into a gentle wave. The rippled surface catches the light from inside and throws a soft, water-like pattern across the ceiling when the light is on.
Which glass colour gives the most light?
Clear glass lets through the most light and suits rooms where the Nastro is the main light. Amber gives the warmest glow; tea and green are deeper and more decorative, ideal for bedrooms and evening living rooms.
Can I order another glass colour?
Yes. Other glass colours can be made on request. Please contact us with the shade you have in mind before ordering.
Is every ribbon identical?
No. The ribbons share the same wave and colour, but their texture, tiny bubbles and depth of colour vary slightly from piece to piece. That variation is part of the charm of formed glass, not a defect.
Size and placement
Which size should I choose?
Ø 45 cm (17.7″) suits bedrooms, hallways and entryways up to about 12 m². Ø 60 cm (23.6″) suits living rooms, dining rooms and larger bedrooms of about 12–20 m². Ø 90 cm (35.4″) is a statement piece for large living rooms, open-plan spaces and entrance halls.
Will it fit under my ceiling?
Where people walk underneath, keep about 2.1 m (7 ft) of headroom: that means ceilings from about 2.4 m (8 ft) for the 45 cm size, 2.5 m (8.2 ft) for the 60 cm size and 2.7 m (9 ft) for the 90 cm size. Over a table or bed, a lower ceiling works.
Light and installation
Which bulbs does it use?
G9 bulbs, up to 40 W in total. Warm white LED G9 bulbs of 2700–3000K bring out the colour of the glass beautifully and stay cool to the touch.
Is it dimmable?
The standard Nastro is on/off only. A dimmable version is available on request: please contact us before ordering.
How is it installed?
It is a hardwired ceiling light. Glass is heavy, especially in the larger sizes, so it should be installed by a qualified electrician on a ceiling box rated for the weight, following local electrical codes.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20 for indoor, dry rooms only.
Care and ordering
How do I clean the glass?
Switch off and let the bulbs cool, then wipe the ribbons with a soft, dry or lightly damp microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which can dull the texture of the glass.
Will it work with the voltage in my country?
Yes. It runs on AC 110–240 V, which covers the US, Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia and most other countries.
How soon will my order ship?
Each light is prepared at our factory in 5–10 days, then dispatched to you. You will see the delivery estimate for your country at checkout.

Glass Shaped by Hand
Heat, patience and steady hands in every piece.
Handmade Glass Series
Glass Shaped by Hand
Every glass shade in this series is made by hand. Artisans gather molten glass, then turn, stretch and shape it with heat and hand tools until the form feels just right.
No two pieces leave the workshop exactly alike. The small differences in curve, thickness and tone are what give handmade glass its warmth and depth.
-
Formed in the heat
The glass is worked while it is still molten, so every curve is guided by eye and feel instead of being stamped out as identical parts.
-
Shaped with hand tools
Traditional tools are used to pull, pinch and smooth the glass, leaving the subtle marks of the maker's hand in the finished piece.
-
Cooled slowly for strength
Finished pieces are cooled gradually so the glass settles evenly, helping it stay strong and stable in everyday use.
Tiny bubbles, faint swirls and slight shifts in color are natural in handmade glass, and they make each piece one of a kind.
