The story
In spring in Paris, swallows gather in rows on the wires above the streets, then lift off one by one and scatter across the sky.
Hirondelle, the French word for swallow, catches that moment of flight. From a small round canopy, slender arms of carbon steel reach out in every direction, each ending in a shell-shaped shade with a pointed tip, like the head of a bird in mid-flight. Brass swivel joints let you swing every arm left or right and turn every shade, so you can shape the light to your room.
Because the arms spread outwards rather than down, the Hirondelle brings a sculptural, 1950s spirit to rooms with standard and lower ceilings: above a dining table, in a living room, a bedroom or a study. In black or white, it suits mid-century modern, French modernist, Scandinavian, minimalist and industrial interiors.

Dimension drawings

At 32 cm tall, the Hirondelle leaves about 2.08 m (6.8 ft) beneath a standard 2.4 m (8 ft) ceiling, ideal above a table or bed. Where people walk underneath, a ceiling of about 2.45 m (8 ft) or more keeps the recommended 2.1 m (7 ft) of headroom.
Made to move
Two sets of brass joints let you arrange the Hirondelle to suit your room, and change it whenever you like.

At the centre, each arm sits on its own brass swivel joint. Swing the arms left or right to spread them evenly, gather them over a table, or open them wide across the room.

Every shell-shaped shade is fixed to a brass swivel knuckle. Turn each shade to choose where its light falls: down onto a table, towards a reading chair, or up onto the ceiling for a softer glow.
Details
Step-by-step pictures for fixing the canopy, attaching the arms and fitting the shades, with full dimensions for every size.
Questions, answered
Ø is the overall span, measured across the tips of the arms. The 3-head light comes in Ø 110 cm (43.3″) or Ø 150 cm (59.1″); the 6-head light in Ø 110 cm (43.3″) or Ø 220 cm (86.6″). Every version is 32 cm (12.6″) tall.
Three heads give a light, open silhouette that suits dining tables, bedrooms and studies. Six heads give more light and a fuller, more sculptural look, best in living rooms and open-plan spaces.
Measure the room and leave at least 30 cm (12″) between the tips of the arms and the walls. Over a dining table, a span about the length of the table, or a little shorter, keeps the shades above the table rather than over the chairs.
Yes. The arms spread outwards rather than down, and the light is only 32 cm (12.6″) tall. Under a 2.4 m (8 ft) ceiling it leaves about 2.08 m (6.8 ft) beneath it, ideal above a table or bed.
Yes. Each arm sits on a brass swivel joint at the central canopy, so you can swing it left or right to spread the arms evenly or gather them where you need light.
Yes. Every shade is fixed to a brass swivel knuckle, so you can turn it to aim the light down onto a table, towards a chair, or up onto the ceiling for a softer glow.
One E26 bulb (standard in the US and Canada) or E27 bulb (standard in Europe and much of Asia) per shade, up to 40 W. Small globe LED bulbs in warm white, 2700–3000K, look best inside the open shades.
The standard Hirondelle is on/off only. A dimmable version is available on request: please contact us before ordering.
It is a hardwired ceiling light that fixes to a standard ceiling box. Our installation guide shows each step. For safety, we recommend installation by a qualified electrician, following local electrical codes.
No. It is rated IP20 for indoor, dry rooms only.
Black draws a crisp, graphic outline across the ceiling and stands out against pale walls. White feels softer and lighter, almost disappearing against a white ceiling so that only the glow stands out.
Switch off and let the bulbs cool, then wipe the arms and shades with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which can mark the painted finish.
Each light is prepared at our factory in 5–10 days, then dispatched to you. You will see the delivery estimate for your country at checkout.

Every arm swings, every shade turns. A ceiling light you can redesign in seconds, whenever your room changes.
Swivel jointAt the canopy, each arm sits on its own brass swivel joint. Move them by hand to spread the light across the whole ceiling, or bring them together over the spot that matters.
Turns to face upEvery shell-shaped shade turns on a brass knuckle, all the way round to face the ceiling. Point one down onto the table, one towards a reading chair, and one straight up for a soft, indirect glow.
Most statement lights hang down into the room. The Hirondelle spreads across it instead, so even a standard 2.4 m (8 ft) ceiling keeps its sense of space, with about 2.08 m (6.8 ft) left beneath it.
